I must say that those concrete perimeter pieces were foolhardy. Required to be held up with much more steel (costly) and by welds, which are fragile.

Good grief - never expected to get all emotional over this series, but damn this got me. Amazing house and just goes to show how our environments can have such an impact on us.

A beautiful space... incorporating traditional design elements... while also fulfilling the needs of a modern multi-generation home. Add to that... they get ALL that space, the animals, the orchard... AND the VIEWS! Truly a beautiful home. Well done.

While this house may prove to be too large for this family in the long run, it’s a marvelous home. And Kevin’s mother is a kick in the pants!!!

Please tell me there is a concerted effort to prioritize using reclaimed oak beams and struts in the uk. 80 century old oaks felled for one dwelling is downright upsetting!

Yeah.....He's a control freak for sure. Glad the house came out. But he is a primarily the cause of the massive amount of time it took to complete. The waterproof membrane fiasco was easily foreseen if he HAD done the research he claimed to have done. IF he then ignored that because of a myopic focus on HIS projected time schedule and logistical qualities then that's a sign he may indeed need therapy. The man stood in his own way to getting his family in a completed home. This is a painful situation to watch. A difficult episode to watch.

In a way, the wall falling down would be a good thing in that it would provide a supply of stone for the repair of all the others, that matches very closely.

So pleased to see more postings on the page! Wonderful! As for the house I'm surprised there is no "Sedum Roof" sections along with a few solar elements on this build. The stories told here are at the core of what makes this show worthwhile. The builds, the families, the risks, the rewards.....Some growth, some loss.

Have sorely missed being allowed to watch your great/sensible adventures of creating great spaces dreamed about by special people. So much to learn from the strength/respect and caretakers of their environment. You’re lucky to have a slow “ history” to guide you towards the future. Here in the states,we tend to “tear down” , leaving the future artificial and void. Your rolling hills, hourly seasonal changes and a good cup of tea is your gift that is surely enjoyed.

One of the GREATEST shows of this type EVER produced. Though....This couple is so "competent" they're stupid! To discount "Mother Nature", the unknown, the effects of "unrelated" things on their daily lives to begin with..... Also ANYONE should know that you'd need to allow MONTHS of settling on such a steep and drenched site! I'm curious as to how well the house holds up. They'd have saved money and grief by hiring a proper project manager or consultant to catch things.

First, I want to thank you for making the last 5 days so wonderful with these episodes. Second, I would no longer call Mike and Sarah's home a longhouse. I would call it a Generational Haven. Three generations together, supporting, caring, and loving each other. Their concept should be an inspiration to others. Thank you for sharing another wonderful episode with us. Wishing the family a wonderful future in their new home. ❤

windfarms are so destructive to habitats how can you promote this. do you have any idea the destruction from where the wood is harvested to erecting this. Do some research.

I can appreciate some aspects of this project both for how it sets up poor people to “fail” and also how it gives them an opportunity to learn and work together even if it’s essentially patronizing. These people have to try to do it all AND try and do something while depending on whether others care as much as they do. Anyone who has ever done a group project knows how futile your own efforts can be. Feels like a knock on effect of thatchers England…

Copper wow. No way it would happen today it’s so incredibly costly. This project was sort of hard to watch. I wonder why her adult children didn’t suggest something less ambitious. It’s sad to see older folks rambling around on their own in giant homes. They could have moved in with her or helped convert the lower level so she could easily live there without so much alteration and chopping up a lovely estate with property.

The asbestos reclamation in the US was a big scam. Sure, you don’t want airborne fibers all about, but a coat of paint was found to keep it in place until demolition. During demolition, soaking the boards with water keeps the fibers down until they can be transported to a special dump.
